As the weather cools down and summer fades, evidence of fall appears all over campus from students’ outfits to classroom decorations. Orchestra’s Falloween social on Friday, 5–7 p.m., was one way students celebrated both fall and Halloween.
“The Falloween social is just a fall social for our orchestra students,” Orchestra Director Julie Blackstock said. “We invite them to dress up in costumes and we have snacks and games. The games vary each year. This year we also did friendship bracelets and cookie decorating, and we traditionally finish with a pumpkin pie eating contest. [Falloween is] just a time for our orchestra students to get together and socialize.”
With costume prizes on the line, students are given incentive to dress up for the event.
“This year, I dressed up as a dinosaur, because I thought it was funny,” junior Sarah Mills said. “I think the costume competition is a good idea, but I think I should have gotten the award.”
This year, orchestra students could be found outside, fencing each other with pool noodles. Participating in the final round of the game, the social was an entirely new experience to junior Andrew Gow.
“I’ve never been to the Falloween social specifically, but I’ve been to other orchestra events and had fun at those, so I decided to go this year,” Gow said. “My favorite parts were talking to others in Orchestra and also the game. I had fun playing the new game and I’d play it again.”
For Blackstock, Falloween closes with its best part.
“[My favorite part of the social is] probably the pumpkin pie eating contest,” Blackstock said. “I think it’s fun and funny to watch.”
