Taking part in the War Games tournament on Saturday, the boys’ wrestling team didn’t have long to review or prepare for Wednesday’s District Duals at Centennial High School.

“The past weekend’s War Games weren’t our best performance for both boys and girls,” boys’ head coach Justin Koons said. “There is definitely room for improvement. Next for boys is districts so hopefully we will be prepared for that and compete hard.”

Estimating the team would finish near the middle of the pack, junior Nolan Koons is hoping lesson learned in practice and at War Games will pay off on Wednesday.

“I hope we all wrestle pretty well today, out of the district we might be in the middle,” Nolan said. “My last tournament was not terrible, I pinned a guy who beat me three times last year. Stuff we learned was to keep our elbows in so they don’t get underneath our arms and to stay in a good position.”

With the season still in its earlier stages, one lesson has already sunk in for senior Gautham Beesetti.

“I think I’ll do ok today, I’ll try my best to put 100%,” Beesetti said. “The last tournament taught me that rankings and placements don’t matter and it’s 0-0 when you step in the mat and you just got to fight.”
