It’s off to Lewisville Friday and Saturday for the girls’ wrestling team as they compete in the Texas Women’s Classic tournament.
“This tournament is tough, so we’re hoping to get good matches in,” girls head coach Viviana Espinoza said. “70% of Girls that are currently state ranked will be at this tournament. This will be a good look for District, regionals and state. Our girls know it will be a huge learning experience, win or lose.”
Entering the season ranked 8th in the state, junior Dani Banks isn’t taking anything for granted.
“At first, I’m nervous,” Bank said. “But then when I get on the mat I get an adrenaline rush. I’m like ‘let’s do this’.”
Sophomore Angel Machiri also state ranked (#12), may be looking forward to post-tournament plans as much as the actual wrestling.
“I’m really excited. I just wanna go compete and do the best I can really and learn a lot from the matches,” Machiri said. :I’m most excited for day two, because after that we’re going to have a team eat-out and have some fun after!”
