With the holiday season coming up the boys’ wrestling team has one last match on Saturday to hopefully end the calendar year with more wins.
“I don’t think it is as tough as it used to be, just because prosper is having a tournament that took some teams,” boys’ head coach Justin Koons said. “We’ll get to see some teams from Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma. Nolan ranks top 20 and he had a big top 20 win the other day. Juan just beat the number 7 guy in the state, so looking to see what he can do, he’s 15 and 2.”
With the District 8-5A meet on Jan. 29, the Santa Slam is a chance for the boys’ wrestling team to face some higher level competition according to senior Juan Mendoza.
“Santa Slam is going to go amazing. Santa Slam is an important tournament, It’s one of the last ones we have during the season,” Mendoza said. “It’s probably one of the harder ones where we see a little bit harder competition. It’s a pretty big one for just being a one day tournament.”
