College. The thought of going is already stressful enough, but having to deal with my disease in a new world is more stressful. I didn’t really think about it until I was recently asked the question, “How will you handle treatment in college?” and “Will my disease affect my college decision?”
As far as treatment goes I will have to go off campus to a hospital or infusion center to receive it. This also includes going off campus to pick up my prescriptions. This will require a car, so universities that allow freshman students to have cars have drawn my attention more. Although, even universities that don’t allow freshman students to have cars, I’m sure, would have an appeal for students like me. However, I’m sure it would be a timely process.
As far as everything else, my mindset is to not let my disability hinder my dream of where I want to go! I see it as I should apply and pick universities that I want to go to. Yes, maybe I will have to drive a little farther to pick up medication, but as long as I am where I want to be that is all that matters.
Next week I will touch on the costly medications. I can’t wait to continue to share my story with you! Remember our struggles don’t define us.
