Since freshman year, many students wait for special senior activities. Graduation is often the ultimate thing to look forward to as a senior, but prom is also an important end of the year senior activity with this year’s dance at Toyota Stadium with tickets costing $100.
“It’s so nice to see students dressed up,” Principal Stacy Whaling said. “Seeing it all come together at the end, and seeing the kids dance have such a good time hanging out with their friends. I mean, just really letting loose.”
In previous years the W Hotel has been a commonly chosen location for prom, however, after touring multiple locations Principal Whaling saw Toyota as the best fit.
“When you have a graduating class of 600 you have a lot more kids going to prom, and you can afford a different space,” Whaling said. “We had to look for amazing places that we had the budget for because you don’t ever want the kids to feel slighted because there’s less of them.”
Principal Whaling handles all prom activities and logistics, relieving student council of their usual school dance planning duties.
“We don’t really do a theme, we usually do like night to remember,” Whaling said. “We want to spend the money on the things that students really want: the photo booths, the DJ, the food. We have got some decorations, you know the King and Queen crowns.”
Tickets go on sale Friday and will not be sold at the door.
