The final tournament before districts for the Redhawks wrestling team is Saturday at the Coyote Classic tournament at Heritage HS.
“Districts is coming up so we don’t want to put too much pressure on the kids for this tournament. We don’t have a full line up again but I know the kids will perform well for the ones who can’t make it,” head coach Justin Koons said, “This tournament is going to help the team prepare for districts because it’s a big tournament and for some of the kids it’s their first year wrestling so districts are new to them. It will help them understand the environment.”
The Redhawks will be facing many of the opponents that will be at the district tournament as well.
“This tournament is going to be a good preparation before districts in two weeks, because we’re going to see some of our opponents,” senior Esther Essien said. “It’s going to let us kind of gauge how we’re going to do at districts and I think it’s also a good mental preparation knowing this is our last tournament before districts. I’m expecting us to do really well individually and as a girls team, I think it’s possible for a lot of our girls to medal.”
