There are still a last few hurdles for seniors applying to colleges. With the first semester of the school year ending before winter break, and many final application deadlines approaching, transcripts for seniors are released Monday at the end of the school day.
Many colleges require a mid-year report to see how applicants have kept up their studies. These reports along with FISD transcripts, credits, transferred, credits, GPA, and class rank, will all be updated an reported.
For senior Tory Essien, her transcript was required to even apply to some universities.
“When we’re applying for colleges, to most of them, especially on CommonApp, usually ask for your transcript,” Essien said. “I know when I was applying for the University of Houston and LSU they asked me for my transcript in order for me to even submit the application. And then, especially when you get into the college like further they might ask for more of your transcript.”
Some seniors applied Early Decision or Early Action and got deferred which means they now have to send in additional documents which include updated transcripts and mid-year reports.
“Some people just bank on the fact that they will get into their early school but then get deferred,” Nolan Sow said. “This is why it’s important to not be complacent so when your counselors send over your documents, colleges still consider you a competitive applicant.”
For freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, their transcripts will be available at the beginning of February.
