The first week of District 11-5A play is over, with boys and girls both taking losses against Lebanon Trail on Friday, 3-2 and 2-0.
“I’m actually really happy with the way that we’ve played for a young team,” girls’ head coach Kyle Beggs said. “We’re getting a lot of compliments, and we’ve been kind of unlucky at times. I think that we’ve done well and should have come away with more than a loss, but we’ve made a few mistakes.
The girls will now look to turn around their record Tuesday as they hit the road against Centennial.
The boys’ loss Tuesday not only cost them their record but also a trophy. It is tradition for the Redhawks and the Trailblazers to pass along a donkey statue between the two teams when they face off with the winner getting the donkey.
“It was pretty devastating,” senior Diego Rivera said. “Honestly, I think we should have won that game. We definitely need to work on defense the first and definitely finishing.”
Tuesday, the boys will also be taking on the Titans, but at The Nest beginning at 7:15. The Titans are the only team undefeated in District 11-5A.
“I don’t think the guys feel nervous,” head coach Evan McGee said. “They know a lot of the guys on the team, they know how to play, so they know it’ll be a tough game, but they don’t seem nervous about it. So really it’s just sticking to the game plan and being disciplined.”
