After months of practice, tournaments, and monitoring their weight, the Redhawks wrestling teams compete in 8-5A District tournament on Wednesday and Thursday at Memorial High School with the boys competing Wednesday and girls on Thursday.
“I think we have an opportunity on the guy’s side to place in the top 3 or 4, but some guys are going to have to step up and put in some work. Winning key matches and coming through the back side,” head coach Justin Koons said. “I think our girls have a chance to be top 2, possibly make a run for district championship but we will have to face a tough Frisco High team.”
Wrestlers have to finish in the top four at the district meet to advance to the regional meet.
“My hope for varsity district is that our team ends up trying to place in either top 5 and that we have at least 3 or 4 people make it out of districts,” junior Nolan Koons said.
Ranked in top 10 in her weight division when the season began, junior Dani Banks is confident some Redhawks will advance to the regional tournament.
“We have all worked very hard this season and prepared for districts,” Banks said. “I think some of us will definitely advance to regionals.”
