Students are making waves.
The lifetime outdoor recreation class has started its boating unit, focusing on skills like parts of the boat, safety, and other elements.
“Currently in outdoor education, our students are learning about boater education,” outdoor education teacher Robert Thayer said. “So they are learning about parts of the boats. Boat navigation, safety, and what to do in emergencies when they are out on the water. After they complete the study guide and the material, they will actually take a certificate online. So, they will have a lifetime certification through Texas Parks and Wildlife.”
Students are already enjoying the challenge and gaining new skills on the boat.
“Currently in our class, we’re learning about boats,” freshman James Rodz said. “And why I like this is because we learn about the parts and mechanics of them. After the unit, we are going to take a final test which I am pretty excited for.”
