If practice makes perfect, the Redhawks track and field team could be in good shape based on their performance in Thursday’s practice meet at Independence.
“Every single athlete competed well and most set their personal record which I’m not surprised about because they have been really locked in during the off season and now that we are at the start of the season I see them improving a lot,” boys’ head coach Robert Thayer said. “We don’t want to get too cocky though since that was just a practice meet and we have many more meets to come with different competitions and different types of athletes.”
Although the athletes were not scored based on their race, the Redhawks won the majority of the events which is a good confidence boost for the season opener.
“I ran the 800m dash which is half a mile or 2 laps around the track. It was very challenging because it’s basically a full sprint for half a mile,” junior Gregory Kinneer said. “Personally I think I could have done better and ran harder but then again it’s our first meet of the season and it was just practice.”
