Playoffs now one game away for boys’ basketball

The boys’ basketball team (8-5) earned a 54-48 home victory over Frisco (3-10) in District 11-5A play on Friday, clinching a playoff bid with one district game remaining. 

The boys’ basketball team (8-5) earned a 54-48 home victory over Frisco (3-10) in District 11-5A play on Friday, clinching a playoff bid with one district game remaining. 

Down 33-25 at halftime, the Redhawks regrouped to score a combined 29 points over the final two quarters while allowing the Raccoons only 15 of their own in that time period.

“We’re glad the guys were able to pull out the win despite a less-than-ideal start to the game,” assistant coach Robert Wilson said. “We met maybe one goal that we had for the game, but it was great for the guys to be able to stare adversity straight in the face and still find a way to get the job done.”

Boys’ basketball players declined to respond to Wingspan’s request for comment.

19 members of the Redhawks swim and dive team competed in the  Region III meet at the Bruce Eubanks Natatorium Thursday through Saturday, going up against teams from seven other Frisco ISD high schools. Zachary Moland is a junior in his third year on the Wingspan staff. He is also a member of Academic Decathlon and NHS and a third-generation Eagle Scout. Christine Han is a senior and this will be her third year on the Wingspan staff. She manages social media for Wingspan and is also a photographer. She will be participating in her 4th year with the CTE Competitive Mock Trial Team. In her free time she likes to work in various women’s rights groups, read books, watch movies, and hang out with her friends. If she’s not too busy, she also likes to bake.
