After several scrimmages, the Redhawks softball team takes the field for its first official game Monday at 5:00 p.m. when it hosts Fort Worth Paschal.
“We’re still focusing on staying healthy and maintaining a positive mindset,” head coach Tiffany Thayer said. “One of our biggest priorities is mastering the fundamentals, because when we execute that well, we prevent giving up unnecessary runs. Offensively, we’re working on being strong contact hitters and celebrating the small successes, whether it’s moving a runner over, getting on base, or executing a play to help the team. No matter how it happens, we want to recognize and appreciate the little things that contribute to our overall success.”
Players such as senior Delila Bond have been working hard in preparation for the game and this season.
“The team has been working very hard in the off season, especially in the weight room,” Bond said. “There were many things that were not in our favor such as getting moved to fourth period boys athletics, and our field being torn up by raccoons. But even though we faced these challenges Coach Thayer has done a great job improvising as she can and trying to prepare us as much as possible.”
