“Play on” is the motto for Tuesday as the Redhawks soccer teams take on Independence High School with a wind advisory in place.
The girls will kick off at 5:30 p.m. against a team with a similar record of 0-8-3.
“I mean we have a very good opportunity,” head girls coach Kyle Beggs said. “We’ve always got a chance to win, but last time out this game was one-one so we have a very good chance, I think, of getting a result that’s favorable for us.”
With the last face-off score lingering in his players’ heads, Beggs believes that will be a key motivator for his players.
“It gives them something to fight for late in the season when they haven’t had much success like on the scoreboard,” Beggs said.
The wind will begin to die down for the guys’ kick-off time of 7:30 p.m.. However, senior Lucas Godoy believes it will still pose a challenge.
“When the ball is up in the air it will be a challenge,” Godoy said. “We just can’t get into a game of kickball we will really have to control it and posses.”
Currently sitting fifth in the District 11-5A table, a win is crucial for the boys to move up.
“Only the top four teams advance, and we only have three games left,” Godoy said. “Emerson is above us right now with one more win, so hopefully we can win and they’ll lose to Memorial.”
