From supporting players on the field to pep rallies, the cheerleaders can have a big presence on campus with clinics for the March 12 tryouts happening Thursday and Friday.
“I hope that this upcoming season we are just as close as we were this season,” cheer coach Katherine Rainwater said. “I think the friendships, relationships, and the bonds formed are the best part of cheer. It’s the way that we all get to grow together as a team.”
The upcoming cheer season is going to be a new and exciting experience for all of those involved according to junior Katelynn Bott.
“I think the team will be different next year in a way of how varsity will be. Hopefully we have all three teams, we didn’t have that this year,” Bott said. “Hopefully everyone gets their own team so everybody can work up to varsity because it was a little different this year. I think it’s really good to be with your own team and people that are in your own grade.”
Sophomore Zara Ahmed, who is trying out this year, has a few expectations for this upcoming season.
“I think it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and since I’m in high school I think it will be really fun,” Ahmed said. “We got our tryout material so I expect that we’re going to have to perform the dance. I also expect to have a section for tumbling, and I think we’ll do it in smaller groups so I won’t be alone.”
Tryouts are also a way for students to meet new people and get involved at school.
“Cheer is a great opportunity to make friends, get involved, and see what goes on behind the scenes at sports events,” Rainwater said. “We go to state competitions, and it’s just a great opportunity overall to get involved with your school and peers.”
