Choir is performinga pre-UIL concert Friday at 6:30 p.m. featuring the songs “Alle meine Kleider”, “Sigh No More Ladies” by Ruth Morris Gray, and “Birdsong” by Paul Read.
“So Pre UIL is our concert where we get to do all our UIL music about a month before our actual contest where we have judges,” choir director Toni Ugolini said. “It is an opportunity for our families to get to see the performance since UIL is generally during the day so it harder for people to work, but it also gives us an opportunity to get some feedback on things we can correct and improve moving forward so we can be the best possible on our actual contest date.”
Working on the songs for about two months, freshman Sanika Kaulgud spent time focusing on sight reading
“I also pay a lot of attention during sightreading as it is one of my weaknesses, so making sure I can do stuff like that would be beneficial,” Kaulgud siad. I feel pretty well prepared, as we have been working on these three songs for about two months now, so now I feel really confident about singing them on stage.
Confident in their stage music, freshman Shradhdha Vivek continues to push herself to improve.
“We’ve been practicing a lot for UIL, especially sight reading, since we’re confident with our stage music. We also focus on diction so the judges can hear the words, and add musicality for a better sound,” Vivek said. “The Pre-UIL concert will help with performing in front of an audience and adapting to the stage echoes. In class, we sight read one to two times to work on skips, tempo, and staying on beat. Sometimes, we also go to the rotunda to hear our voices echo during round parts.”
