Now that I’m finally committed to Wellesley College, I can talk about the roommate search process. Once I knew where I was going, I submitted some photos of myself along with a bio to the official Wellesley College of 2029 Instagram. This is when I got added to the class group chat and started getting followers of other students from my year.
I reached out to some people and some reached out to me, but I quickly found a few girls I was so comfortable talking to. I started with some of the basic questions like, “what’s your sleep schedule like?” and, “how often do you clean?”
After I got a general sense of what the living conditions would be like, I wanted to see if we would click on personal levels. I asked multiple contenders this question, “do you think there are more wheels or doors in the world?” This may seem like a weird question, but trust me, when gauging the general vibe of a person, the way they answer is critical.
The way I could eliminate some people out of the running was if they started their answers with “ummmmmmm” or “uhhhhh idk”. I think I ghosted them nicely, but they knew that the end of the road was there for us.
But one girl completely matched my energy. She replied with wheels, which is the right answer, then turned things around and asked me a question: “how many seagulls would you have to see on your roof before you got suspicious?”
From there, the conversation carried itself, and by the end of the day, we were roommates. We made a shared Pinterest board for our rooms and our aesthetics and colors matched completely.
Another plus side about my roommate is that she will be bringing a mini fridge! I’m getting the Persian rug and bringing my printer. We just have a really good dynamic and when you know, you know.
