Staley Middle School was given a potential lifeline at Monday’s Frisco ISD Board of Trustees meeting as a motion to close the middle school at the end of the 2024-25 school year was denied by a 4-3 vote. Instead the board voted 4-3 to get a second demographic opinion regarding the school.
“I feel like this is rushed,” board President Dynette Davis said. “I am very concerned about the quality of education that our kids are going to receive next year.”
The school’s closure was recommended due to multiple issues with the building that opened in 1973, including the need for a new plumbing system which would take 18-30 months to complete at a cost of $7 to $10 million according to school district officials.
The demographers report is expected to take four to six weeks at which point the board is expected to once again discuss the fate of Staley.
However, board members such as Mark Hill aren’t expecting anything to change.
“We should all be bracing and expecting what [the demographer report] is going to tell us,” Hill said. “We all need to be prepared to make that hard decision when it comes.”
