First and second for cross country teams

The girls’ cross country team won the District 13-5A championship Thursday morning at Warren Park with the boys’ team taking second.

The action began before school even started with the girls beginning at 8:30 a.m. Junior Carrie Fish paced the girls team, finishing first with a time of 18:13.

Senior Yuliana Lorenso and freshman Amelia Jauregui followed closely behind to finish 5th and 7th.

All seven members of the girls’ varsity team finished in the top 17, earning them the district team championship.

The boys’ varsity team was led by seniors Nicholas Wynne and Josh Akin who finished in 4th and 5th place.

The boys’ team finished Wakeland in the team standings, taking 2nd place.

With the girls’ first place finish and the boys’ second place finish, both teams qualified for the Regional 2 meet on Oct. 29 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
