Thousands of children will be walking the streets of Frisco trick-or-treating, while hundreds more will be in the band parking lot for the annual Trunk or Treat event. However, some students will be using the night to ask for donations for UNICEF.

Rather than seeking treats, the school’s UNICEF members will be going door to door asking for money.

“Out of every dollar earned 90 cents goes to the children, 7 cents to fundraising costs, and 3 cents for administration costs,”  sophomore Ria Bhasin said. “The money goes to various costs, if a person earns $1 it gives a child 40 days of water, $5 feeds a malnourished child for 5 days, $10 vaccinates 280 children, $100 protects 100 kids from malaria, and $500 gives a well to an entire village.”

In addition to raising money for UNICEF, the trick-or-treating for donations will also raise  awareness to the group’s cause.

“Not only are we raising awareness in our school, we are letting the people of frisco know how lucky we are to live in this community,” Bhasin said. “Many Frisco citizens are unaware of the tragedies children face, with TOT we have a voice in the community to advocate and address those needs.”
