Frisco ISD held a school board meeting yesterday to discuss attendance zone changes that will alleviate overcrowding and delay the need for the construction of new schools.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeremy Lyons said that the rezoning that is projected to affect 306 students is a permanent decision.

“We are not doing any temporary rezoning this year” Lyons said on the Frisco ISD website. “These proposals are built to last – as long as things can last in our ever-changing, fast growth environment.”

There will be an opportunity for parents to voice any concerns at the December 12 board meeting, before a final decision on rezoning is made on January 17. Deputy Superintendent for Business Services Dr. Todd Fouche said that the board wants to take the time to gather more data and opinion before making a final decision in January.

“What we don’t want to do is to make a decision now for a short-term solution without adequate time and data,” Fouche said on the FISD website. ““We want to take our time with the facility usage and efficiency study, so that when we present it to the Board, staff and the community, everyone will clearly see the big picture of what we need to accomplish and what that means for us long-term in regard to new schools and build out of the District.”
