Senior Nikita Naumov broke two school records on Saturday at the regional meet.

Wingspan: How long have you been swimming and what made you start?

Naumov: “I’ve been swimming for about six years. I played a lot of sports when I was young, but I had really bad allergies so swimming was the only sport that I could do.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about swimming?

Naumov: “My favorite part is definitely the big meets where we are against the fastest swimmers out there, because that’s the part when the season really pays off. It’s lots of fun racing and competing with really fast people.”

Wingspan: What is the most difficult part about swimming?

Naumov: “Holiday training because the coaches don’t hold back and give us the toughest sets possible. They’ll have us swimming for four hours a day, it is really tough but definitely worth it.”

Wingspan: What records have you broken for the school?

Naumov: “For individual events, I’ve broken two free. under fly, 100 free, and the five free. I also have the two medley relay, four free relay and two free relay.”

Wingspan: How do you continue to stay motivated knowing that your times are already the best?

Naumov: “Mostly college times and I see a lot of kids getting into colleges, and see their times, so I try to shoot for those times for a chance to get recruited.”

Wingspan: What are your goals for state?

Naumov: “I’m really hoping to get top three podium in my individual events and try to place top five for our relays. I’m really going to focus on my individual events though, so I can get a medal.”

Wingspan: What are you future career aspects regarding swimming?
Naumov: “Hopefully if I get recruited for college I’ll be able to swim for them for two years and then in that time be able to go to the Olympic Trials. I basically want to shoot for the Olympic Trials, Olympics is not really on my mind right now, I just want to keep getting faster.”
