First period girls athletics are mixing up their workout schedule.

WTV’s Jordan Klein has the story.

For the third year, all of first period girls athletics will be working out together rather than being divided by sport.

Athletes will participate in a variety of stations including speed, agility, core, plyometrics, and weightlifting with girls from different sports.

“The purpose of our group workouts is one to bring everybody together and have a little more community between our athletes and then it’s also just the need to compete against different people,” athletic department chair U’ilani Womble said. “You know once we get into off season we don’t compete against anybody but ourselves you know for however long. For volleyball, it’s been since November so we’re competing against the same people all the time so it’s fun to see some other people compete, do some other things, listen to some other coaches, make those connections and build relationships outside just our own sport.”

The combined workouts also allow coaches and players to work with different people, train in new ways, and simply change up what they do on a regular basis.
