Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr joined the American Heart Association and Reliant to start the 2015 Dallas Cowboys Play 60 challenge at Sparks Elementary Monday afternoon

The event kicked off with Carr and the fifth grade class at Sparks participating in several physical activities designed by the NFL Play 60 Challenge.

There are three parts to the program; a teacher guide which gives lesson plans that contain physical activities, a student planner which give the fifth graders a guideline to achieve their goals, and a nutritional partnership with Fuel Up to Play 60 that encourages the students to eat right as well as exercise for at least an hour a day.

“It encourages me to get active more and be outside more of the time,” 5th grade student Halle said.

The fifth grade class also received one hundred KitFit bands for them to use throughout the challenge period. These are used to track the student’s progress and give them constructive feedback to become more healthy.

Nearly one in three kids in the United States are obese and overweight. The NFL and the American Heart Association hope that the Play 60 challenge will help encourage students around the nation to become more active and adopt a more healthy lifestyle.
