For years students many students have wanted the first semester to end before winter break, and next year their wish will be granted. Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, the third six weeks will no longer extend into the new year.

“I think I’ll like that more than what we do now because we have projects to do over break,” Freshman Riana Khan said. “And I have to worry how I’m going to do the two weeks after.”

This year and in years past, it would take nine weeks to complete the third six weeks, with this year it beginning the week before Thanksgiving and ending until Jan. 12.

However, the new calendar approved Monday by the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees, shows the fall semester ending Dec. 21 and school resuming Jan. 8 with the start of the spring semester.

Finishing off the semester before break means a new start for students in the new year.

“I think my grades will also be better because over break I get really lazy and it takes me awhile to get back in the swing of things,” Khan said. “So I think I’ll be able to use up my energy before break and finish the semester strong.”
