With the number of high school athletes suffering major medical problems while participating in their sport getting more and more attention, students throughout the FISD will be able to get an electrocardiogram for $15 the week of Oct. 5-9.

Frisco ISD will again offer cardiac screenings in grades 7-12 as part of a partnership with Who We Play For – Cypress ECG Project. An electrocardiogram (ECG) test the electric activity of the heart to check for problems or irregularities. The test has the potential to identify minor health problems that could pose larger health risks to students.

“I think it’s a great screening tool that most students usually cannot get,” nurse Emily Mikeska said. “With the increase of athletic deaths that have been occurring, it is usually the result of finding something that was a problem earlier, that wasn’t identified or acted on. Getting this screening done to see if you have any pre-disposed factors is worth it. It’s painless, easy, and if you are an athlete, is a great thing to do.”

The screenings will be available at all FISD high schools for $15 in either cash or a check made out to Who We Play For – Cypress ECG Project. The schedule for next week is as follows:
