Redhawks hoops sweep Heritage, soccer splits with Lone Star

The stands were packed Tuesday in the Nest as the basketball teams hosted Heritage.

First up, the girls cruised to a commanding 66-25 win, with junior Randi Thompson leading the way with 14 points. With the win, the girls maintain their lock on second place in district, with just two more district games left before playoffs start.

On the boys side, the matchup with Heritage was one for the sole position of first place in district. After back and forth play, junior Zion Richardson’s 13 points going into the break helped the team lead at halftime, 30-26. Junior Zion Richardson led the team with a game high 25 points despite fouling out in the fourth quarter while senior Zac Watson helped ice the game with a total of 17 points, giving the team a 71-66 win.

The win boosts the boys into sole possession of first place in district 13-5a. Both the girls and guys next game is Friday at Frisco at 6 and 7:15 p.m.

On the field, boys soccer hosted Lone Star in their third district matchup of the season. Junior CJ Nelson led the way for the Redhawks, notching two goals in the team’s 2-2 draw against the Rangers. On the girls side, freshman Ally White contributed both goals in the team’s 2-1 victory over the Rangers.

Both soccer teams’ next game is against Frisco, with the girls at home at 7 p.m. on Friday and the boys’ away on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
