In this assignment students are given a list of 47 projects and must complete 11 of them to simulate a photographer working for a publication. This project benefits students in that they can choose projects they’re interested in, work on multiple projects at a time, and know in advance when a project will be due to avoid being stressed.

“I really like this project because I get to be more creative with it,” junior Sophia Garofalo said. “I get to put my own spin on it rather than having to do what the teacher tells us and what we’re required to do and I think it’s just a lot more fun.”

Students will be given a major grade on each project based on the quality of the image, and a minor grade based on the student following procedures.

“I use the working photographer project the second semester almost every year because during the first semester students are using skills and techniques,” photojournalism teacher Carole Babineaux said. “They’re learning all their skills and techniques and the second semester allows them to apply those.”
