Students who applied to be apart of the 2018-2019 Student Council were notified of their acceptance during third period Thursday.  Sponsors Julie Anderson and Jordan Benton made the selection process based on the information students submitted in their applications such as teacher evaluations, administrative discipline records, attendance, and a plan for a potential community service project.

“We look for students who will uphold the values, appeals, missions, and goals of the school,” Benson said. “We’re looking for people who are going to step up, stand out, lead the school, include everyone and try to get as many people involved as possible and who are going to reach out and do things that need to be done on the campus. It requires a lot of outside of class time and commitment and we want to make sure those students are dedicated to that and that they’ve, in the past, exhibited those leadership skills and inclusion for all students.”

Current Student Council members expect nothing short of hard-work and dedication from newcomers.

“I anticipate great things from Student Council next year,” senior Student Council president Jeffrey Nebeker said. “Anyone who is selected to the council should be honored, and I expect that they will be able to continue to grow the school’s activities and do great things for the community, school, and the surrounding area.”
