With the Frisco City Council general election not until May 5, Student Council is jumpstarting spring election season with Tuesday’s nomination of the presidential candidates for the 2018-19 school year.

“I anticipate that each and every candidate will bring something unique to Student Council that will ultimately benefit the class and the student body as a whole,” Student Council president Jeffrey Nebeker said.

Candidates Devon Bright, Mara Casey, Wade Glover, Amna Haque, and Austin Widner presented their speeches and answered questions in front of all Student Council members during third period, and members voted digitally to narrow down the candidates to juniors Amna Haque and Wade Glover.

“In my future I am planning on working with healthcare in developing countries,” Haque said. “I know that these are two completely different positions but I know that this opportunity will immensely help develop my leadership skills. I’ll be learning a lot about how to lead and work with a diverse group of people, ease tension in times of stress, and develop the best of relations with those around me.”

Students will vote for the top two presidential candidates on May 3 – 4 and with a little more than a week until the election, Glover is beginning preparations for his campaign.

“For the campaign I am going to try to connect to everyone in the school and make sure that everyone knows that I want Student Council to work to make the school better,” Glover said. “It feels great being nominated, I know I speak for Amna and I when I say that we want Liberty to be the best it can be.”
