The girls cross country team, along with boys Nick Wynee and Josh Akin, are competing in the Regionals cross country meet Monday at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Praire with the chance to move on to state.

“We hope to finish within the top four, and be able to take the girls team to state,” head cross country coach Amanda Byers. “After that, if everyone is healthy, then we want to have Carrie Fish be in the top five for the individual girls meet.”

The coaches have been changing the usual practices to accommodate for the competition and so that the team doesn’t get injured before the meet.

“We’ve slowly backed off the mileage,” Byers said. “During the season we run more hills than speed, but now we changed to so that we have more speed practices than mileage to give the runners a break.”

Battling injuries throughout the year, the team thinks it has a chance to advance.
“We have had our work cut out for us with people missing meets because of injuries,” sophomore Avery Nolden said. “But if we get out there and run like we did at districts then, we have a fairly good chance of advancing to state.”
