Playing its first home of the 2018 season at Memorial Stadium on Friday night, the football team endured a 90 minute weather delay before it was able to take the field against Carrollton Creekview. The Redhawks jumped out to a 15-7 lead but ended up falling in double overtime 25-22.

After more than a 90 minute rain delay due to weather and a drawn-out battle against Carrollton Creekview, the Redhawks fell to the Mustangs 25-22 in double overtime on Friday at Memorial Stadium.

“I thought that our performance was great effort, I thought that they played really hard and I think that they executed what we asked them to,” head football coach Chris Burtch said. “It was a big delay and there were lots of distractions trying to figure out homecoming and then we had to sit there for two hours before the game. I was really pleased with their effort.”

Taking the field for kickoff close to 9:00 p.m., the Redhawks jumped to an early 15-7 lead in the school’s homecoming game, before the Mustangs rallied to tie the score and send it to overtime.

“I think the game could have gone better,” junior wide-receiver Brandon Runge said. “Overall the team played a good game but we could have come out with the win.”

However, the game’s late start caused a more limited fan section.

“I was expecting the rain,” parent Sonja Small said. “So I’m not surprised that we have a rain delay or lightning delay. I’m disappointed because my son wanted to see the game, but he’s a cross country runner and has to get to bed at a decent time.”
