The girl’s and boy’s golf team ended the fall season on a high note as both squads took home first for the second year in a row in the FISD Frisco Cup on Friday and Saturday. The girls won by 71 strokes with the boys overcoming a big deficit to win by one stroke.

“After being down almost ten strokes, the boy’s team knew what it would take to win,” junior Max Miles said. “We all went out there and played the hardest we could and didn’t only come out with a win, but with a Liberty record.”

On the girls side, the win was a bit easier, but it was an important tournament for the what is still to come.

“It was so great to win this tournament, because it was representative of all the golfers in Frisco,” junior Matrone said. “It was also awesome to have both the boys and girls teams come out on top. This was a great practice run for what is to come at district, regionals, and state this spring.”

In addition to both teams taking gold, senior golfer Makenna Davidson finished as the girls individual winner.

“Winning individually was an awesome experience because Frisco Cup is my favorite tournament,” Davidson said. “It has been my goal since the beginning of the fall season to win it.”

The win at the Frisco Cup added to the credibility of the golf program and the overall enthusiasm of the team.

“Our team spirit and collectiveness has been awesome all season, and this was a complete victory,” head golf coach Shannon Glidwell said. “We pride ourselves in being one of the best programs in the state, and it was great seeing how both teams won this weekend. We hope to continue this pattern as we enter the spring season at the district, regional, and state championships.”
