Featuring fruit, cinnamon rolls, donuts, and other treats, the “Happy Cart” of social studies chair Jeff Crowe made its way through the halls during first period on Thursday. “I just wanted to do something to let them know how much that I appreciate them,” Crowe said. “How much the school appreciates them, so doing something fun, something easy.”

It may not have been about chocolate and love, but teachers in the social studies hall were treated to a Valentine’s Day surprise Thursday by department chair Jeff Crowe.

Pushing a cart filled with breakfast items, drinks, and treats, Crowe roamed the halls during first period, stopping in every classroom to give teachers sweets of their choice.

“Our teachers work so hard, and this is the time in the year where they start feeling a little bit anxious and stressed,” Crowe said. “I just wanted to do something to let them know how much that I appreciate them, how much the school appreciates them, so doing something fun, something easy. It was actually the special education teacher Mrs. Biggers’ original idea that she wanted to do with her department, so I thought it was a great idea.”

So did the teachers that benefited from Crowe’s gesture as his cart hit the breakfast spot for world geography teacher Jennifer Nelken.

“I got a cinnamon roll, pop-tarts, a banana, and diet Dr Pepper,” she said. “I think [Crowe] mainly wanted to show appreciation.”

In surprising his department members, Crowe started something which may become a tradition.

“Putting together a little Happy Cart was my idea to go by and just acknowledge each of them, and let them know how much I appreciated them,” Crowe said. “I think I am [going to do it again in the future]. It was well-received, and the teachers really appreciated it. They all had smiles today, they were all very appreciative.”
