When I was an underclassmen, I remember hearing from a senior at the time that they walked into freshman year and high school with one group of friends and out of high school with another. While I’ve thankfully been able to cultivate my existing friendships and expand outward as well, the concept behind unexpected friendships intrigues me.

Over the past four years, a lot of friendships of mine have naturally and surprisingly developed—ones I would’ve never expected but am so grateful for. Looking back and comparing life before and after so many individuals became integrated into it, I’m amazed how seamlessly and effortlessly they fit in.

The thing is you never really know when the next conversation or chance encounter will spark and kick start a special bond.

It’s funny how life works out that way.

One second you’re acquaintances or barely heard of each other other and the next you’re inseparable with a billion inside jokes and memories to share for days.

I’ve come to learn to accept, appreciate, and await for the random chance of a new friendship.

Oftentimes when you’re not particularly searching for something, you stumble upon the greatest gems of people.

Of course, going out of your way to befriend others is important and often an important skill but embracing spontaneity and going with the flow may possibly give you an even greater appreciation for the way life can unfold.
