Major League Baseball doesn’t start for another few weeks, but the Redhawks began District 9-5A play on Tuesday, beating the Frisco Raccoons 4-0 with senior pitcher Tim Wynia recording 13 strikeouts.

“It’s really exciting, winning the first game of the season really boosts our confidence and sets us up for the rest of the season,” Wynia said. “The entire team played really hard last night and it was a great team victory.”

Head coach Scott McGarrh is looking forward to the rest of season as the team is determined to make the playoffs.

“This team’s hungry,” McGarrh said. “They know that when they were freshmen that they were district champs, and they said there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be district champs now because they’ve worked hard. They’ve locked in and we’ve got really good work. I’m so proud of them.”
