Choir hit all the right notes Wednesday as the mixed choir earned all 1’s in the UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest, as did the women’s choir, with both groups earning sweepstakes.

“It’s incredibly amazing,” choir director Toni Ugolini said. “They worked really, really hard and that hard work paid off and just a historic accomplishment for them.”

It’s the first time the school’s mixed choir earned sweepstakes, and just the second time the women’s choir has done so.

It feels good to win sweepstakes,” freshman Shriya Senapathi said. “We sounded more confident than we were in pre-UIL and we worked hard for sweepstakes.”

Wednesday’s results are accolades a year in the making.

“We’ve pretty much since day one been working on the skills that they’ll need to do this,” Ugolini said. “And then just building upon those to get them ready for the things that are expected of them at contest.”
