Parents get first look on band’s performance

Parents have the chance to see band perform on Friday before they make their way to the Little Elm Classic on Saturday. With the contest being a day after, it gives band members some extra practice.

Contests and competitions are starting up for the Redhawk Marching band, but before their first contest on Saturday, the band will give their parents a preview show Friday on the soccer field at 7:05 p.m.

“The parent preview is a great opportunity to have a send away performance that’s very low stress but a perfect example of what will be happening on Saturday,” band student-teacher Joseph Sheehan said. “Running on and running off can make it very stressful. The preview will be very low stress and very professional, much like their contest.”

After practicing for weeks, and performing at several football games, Friday’s parent preview

“I look forward to that because it’s the night before our first contest,” Campbell said. “It gives us a night to prepare and to do a dress rehearsal.”

In addition to acting as a dress rehearsal, Friday’s show is something of a thank you to parents in the years of freshman Lauren West.

“My parents were very supportive of me doing band,” mellophone player, freshman Lauren West said. “The band training is way more strict so if you miss anything you could lose your spot. I think it’s a great idea to have this parent preview our performances and it’s really great that parents can be involved.”
