Students enrolled in English 4 or AP Literature classes enjoyed a festive day of relaxation before the holiday break on Thursday and Friday. Dressed in pajamas, seniors drank hot chocolate, read stories, watched The Polar Express and exchanged white elephant gifts.

“It’s a class where you discuss a lot so you become really close with everybody,” senior Amita Mallavarapu said. “And it’s fun to have a party where you get to know them a little bit better.”

  • Various mix-ins were provided for students to make their hot chocolate even more decadent.

  • Ms. Whaling reads the Polar Express story with students gathered around in a circle.

  • Senior Abel Sen sips on hot chocolate at the start of class prior to listening to the holiday stories.

  • Senior students huddle around and socialize before the festivities begin.

  • A steaming pot of chocolate is available for students to fill up their cups and warm up.

The students are able to identify themes of literature in the movie and in the short stories while having fun with the holiday tales.

“Oftentimes, we work as a class but we don’t get enough time to bond,” senior Eileen Bau said. “But this kind of stuff is really conducive to group work in the future. It’s what makes AP Lit lit.”
