The school’s first ever Scholastic Book Fair takes place Monday through Friday giving students the opportunity to check out and buy new reads.

“I just want them to walk around and find some new books,” librarian Chelsea Hamilton said. “These are all from Scholastic; they’re bestsellers. So to see kind of what is out there, and what is new aside from the stuff that I pull in because I can’t buy everything. This is kind of just a different array.”

The book fair has taken junior Arushi Sinha down memory lane.

“I feel like they’re more of a nostalgic trip to the books we read in middle school than books I want to read,” Sinha said. “It was fun, there were a couple of books I was into, not enough that I would buy it, I feel that I was more interested in the erasers and stuff. I’m probably going to come back and buy some pens and stuff. I just remember being in middle school and seeing all this stuff. There were definitely a lot more books, they arranged it in a different way, by titles and such, it kind of felt more inviting.”

In addition to providing students with an easy way to buy books, the fair will help out with expenses.

“The money we get back from the book fair will go toward buying additional books for the library,” Hamilton said. “Maybe we can get some more fun stuff depending on what we get.”

Library aide, senior Mykah Robins, is helping Hamilton with the book fair.

“It’s actually pretty exciting,” she said. “We’ve never had one at this school before and I remember the last one was in eighth grade, which was so long ago. So, I’m really excited to be a part of it.”

Although Monday is the first day of the book fair, Hamilton has already seen a large turnout.

“We have had a pretty solid amount of students coming in and buying books,” Hamilton said. “A lot of what I expected for this first day was for looking around and seeing what all was here and figuring out how much money was needed. And then coming back throughout the rest of the week. Luckily we’re open the entire week from 8 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m.”
