The afterglow of Friday’s win over Wakeland 45-35 continued with highlights from the game aired on NBC’s broadcast of Sunday Night Football between the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings.

“Seeing our guys on SNF was a surreal feeling, especially after our victory on Friday night.,” assistant football coach Kenny Schiumo said via email. “The moment on national TV was extra special for me as a coach understanding the hard work our guys put in to get to this point. Though it is just one win, it feels like 20. It was only right the nation got to see us win our first game.”

Playing at the headquarters of the Cowboys put the Redhawks in a prime spot for some extra attention.

“Every week we’re with Sunday Night Football,” NBC video crew member Mark Stacey said. “We shoot a high school game, whatever city were in, it doesn’t matter. They use about thirty seconds of it for a bumper during the game promoting high school football.”

Senior Cole Jackson was caught by surprise watching the Cowboys game Sunday night.

“I personally had no clue they were filming until I got messages from my coaches that we were going to be on during the Cowboys game,” Jackson said. “It was very cool and exciting.

Jumping around from high school to high school, Stacey believes Texas is the place to be for high school football.

“It’s different depending where we are,” Stacey said. “Texas is a crazy place for high school football, it’s all the pomp and circumstance here, you go to different states, it’s more laid back, the stadiums are smaller, it’s just a different vibe.”

Ending his final season of high school football, Jackson couldn’t be more proud of his team for ending on a high note.

“The season didn’t go as I hoped it would, and a lot of people would say that, but to end on a win and how we played couldn’t have made it any better,” Jackson said. “It’s sad to hang up my cleats for the last time, but I know that my team and I left it all out there on the field and that’s all I can ask for.”
