In their last tournament before District 9-5A play begins Tuesday, the boys’ basketball team competed in the MISD Spring Creek Barbeque Classic Thursday and Friday.

“I think we gained some experience playing against some tough teams,” senior Macaiah Abii said. “Taking teams to overtime is always good because overtime is almost like a different game. I was proud of the way we played in the fourth quarter of most of our games because some teams struggle with finishing games strong but I think we’ll be fine in that aspect.”

Going 2-2 in the tournament, the Redhawks lost in the consolation semifinals to Waco Midway leaving the team with some lessons learned.

“One takeaway we had was that in the games that we have the least amount of turnovers we are most likely to win,” junior Connor Hulstein said. “I’m proud of my team for playing hard through the whole game and not giving in at any point.”
