In years past, freshmen on campus have filled the hallways for one night exclusively, Rising Freshman Night. Now, this year’s participants will be taking a virtual approach, as the night will be composed into a webinar.

Speaking via Zoom for the Frisco ISD Board of TrusteesMay meeting, the body voted to end the emergency closure of the district on June 7, 2020, in a motion read by board president Chad Rudy. The board’s decision rolled back changes within the district to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak, but did not call for teachers to resume working in person or provide details about opening for the 2020-2021 school year.

Among other developments at Monday’s meeting, the board also moved to delay the beginning of construction for the district’s twelfth high school which was set to open in 2020. The motion does not impact the opening of Emerson high school, the district’s eleventh, which is still expected in 2021.

“The campus opening [of the twelfth high school], which had been slated for 2022 in northwest Frisco, will be pushed back at least one year,” reads a brief released by the district. “FISD leaders said they felt it was prudent to wait for additional information before proceeding with construction. The delay will provide additional opportunity for Frisco ISD to monitor enrollment growth and development in nearby neighborhoods in the wake of COVID-19.”
