According to the National Institute of Health, consumption of substances such as CBD, cannabis, and edibles is one on the rise, specifically within younger generations.

To help provide parents with more information on these substances, Frisco ISD is hosting a webinar “Real Talk: CBD, Cannabis, & Edibles” Wednesday from 6-7 p.m.

Hosted by Irene Little, the CEO and Director of Access Counseling, the main goal of the presentation is to keep parents of teens informed on trends and concerns that have popped up in recent years.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, from 2018 to 2019, there was an 85 percent increase in marijuana use among eighth graders, and a 41 percent increase among those in 10th grade.

The biggest problem is there’s a lot that we still need to know, especially in kids,” clinical director at the Child Mind Institute Dr. Paul Mitran said in a Child Minda article. “In regards to treating mental health disorders in children and adolescents, there’s a lack of evidence to support its use.”

Families interested in this evening’s meeting, which will also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on teens, must register for Wednesday’s event in order to receive the Zoom link.
