Students in Independent Study and Mentorship are hosting their Final Presentation Night on Tuesday. The presentation is a culmination of the student’s work throughout the year.

As the end of the year approaches, ISM students are showing what they’ve spent the year working on at Final Presentation Night on Tuesday beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.Students in ISM select different fields or careers to study, and work with a mentor throughout the year to expand their knowledge in that field.

“Students have been preparing for this night by finalizing their final presentation slides, rehearsing their speech for peers and seeking additional feedback from their mentors,” ISM teacher Courtney Benson said. “It is so important because students have been working diligently towards this night since the beginning of the year.”

For senior Samiya Sahu, who studied electrical engineering, the night is a culmination of the year’s work.

“Final presentation night in my opinion is just the culmination of all the projects that we did throughout our ISM journey and just what we learned from our experiences in the class and about our topic as well,” Sahu said. “I’m going to go through my website that I created for hydrogen cars and explain the different processes through which hydrogen is produced and distributed and the storage methods and all the pros and cons to each method.”

The presentation represents just one part of what students learn in ISM, according to Benson.

“ISM is so important because the professional skills students learn in the course are immediately applicable to the real world,” she said. “Additionally, the requirement of obtaining a mentor allows students to shadow professionals in their day-to-day career.”
