Academic Decathlon students took part in the virtual Irving ISD Invitational Competition over the weekend, finishing in eighth place overall, as well as four students earning eight individual awards.

One of the students, senior Tim Wyatt, who placed fifth in Varsity Economics, is proud of his team as while they placed eighth overall, they came in third place out of all the Frisco schools.

“This time around personally I feel like I did really good,” Wyatt said. “Considering this year the Irving competition was open to the entire United States not just Texas, we even had two teams from Alaska perform and making 5th in Economics surprised me. Overall I still think we have room to grow and learn as our music scores were low, however I do believe we have a good shot at placing.”

Individual awards:

  • Robbie Violante – 6th Place in Scholastic Music
  • Tim Wyatt – 5th Place in Varsity Economics
  • Logan Schaefer – 3rd Place in Varsity Economics
  • Shrenick Gannamani – 4th Place in Honors Music, 4th Place in Honors Economics, 4th Place in Honors Science, 2nd Place in Honors Art, and 1st Place in Honors Social Science
