In the spirit of Thanksgiving, my brother decided to have our family’s first-ever holiday feast. We don’t celebrate the break or Thanksgiving at all, so he was the one who really took charge. He had a full menu planned out consisting of potatoes, pizza, chicken (we don’t eat turkey) and lastly, pie. I was not going to make pie- simply because I’ve never had it. I didn’t want to subject my family to something that could possibly be inedible, or worse.

With that being said, we got everything together and made all the food that was planned and settled on just buying a pie from the store and eating it. If I liked it, I would bake it another time. We went to our local Kroger and picked up a pumpkin pie. I’m a bit skeptical when it comes to vegetable flavoured desserts – take “carrot cake” for example. I really thought I wasn’t going to like it.

To my surprise, I really liked it- the filling was so smooth and I loved the hint of cinnamon I could taste! I finally understood why my friends thought I was crazy for never even going near a pie- I swore I could eat it for days. It fit in perfectly with the pizzas we had made together, along with the fries we made as well as the cranberry dip and chips we had. I think I’ll try making a pie from scratch soon!
