Olivia Rodrigo’s new song “drivers license” has broken records since its release in early January. The song was the biggest ever debut in Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Songs Chart history as well as hitting number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in only a week. There is a lot of hype around this particular song, so here I am going to attempt to make sense of the story behind this song and why it has been so successful.

The story behind “drivers license” is one of a love triangle between Sabrina Carpenter, Joshua Bassett, and Olivia Rodrigo. There are a lot of details so I won’t go into it too much, but basically Sabrina Carpenter and Joshua Bassett are dating after Rodrigo and Bassett broke up. Rodrigo released an Instagram video of herself singing a verse from the song and got such a great response that she decided to turn it into a single.

The hype around the song is partly because of the drama, but also because her fans love her. She has been on screens since she was little and has felt the support of celebrities and co-stars. Even I remember seeing her on the long forgotten show Bizaardvark.

Rodrigo later joined the cast of Disney Plus’s High School Musical reboot show. It is fair to say that Rodrigo has had some great successes in her career. So this song, drivers license, is just the beginning for her. I personally really enjoyed the track and have listened to it on repeat. It is a great song to cry to honestly.

I am proud of Olivia because of her ability as a lyricist. It’s nice to listen to a song with a cool chorus and a nice beat, but the lyrics are the real art. I think that she has a wonderful voice and that she has a bright future ahead of her.
