The swim and diving teams saw first place finishes and record breaks at the 5A TISCA Meet Thursday-Sunday. “Overall the team did excellent. I am very proud of each and every swimmer and diver,” head swim and dive coach Zach Gnoza said.

The Redhawks swim team competed in the 5A Region III meet Friday and Saturday at Frisco’s Bruce Eubanks Natatorium, with sophomore Maria Oushalkas advancing to state in the 200 Freestyle, and senior Mallory Showalter advancing in both the 100 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle.

“To be honest, I knew that I didn’t do all that great at this meet,” Oushalkas said via text. “I placed 4th in the 200 Free and 5th in the 100 Fly. I added time which cost me in both my races but I know for a fact if I had just swam my best I would be 3rd in both events and be going to state in both too.”

Feeling a bit better about her performance, Showalter is pleased with her results after qualifying for the state meet (Feb. 19-20) for the fourth consecutive year.

“I think I did well! Placing in the top 3 is really hard to do in our region, so getting 2nd in the 100 backstroke and 3rd in the 100 freestyle felt great,” Showalter said via text. “I also got my personal best times, which is what I wanted to accomplish.”
